So what have I been up to since the summer? Well as I've written before Digital Movement Records released Michael Boe's debut single "Amok" during the summer and since then it have recieved more than 100.000 views on Youtube!

And now we have just released the official music video for the single:

It was shot on an ultra low budget, but I think it actually turned out quite good ...

And if you look very carefull, you can actually see yours truly 3 times for about 1 second :-)

Well, it seems I have a little problem this year keeping those posts coming. I'll try and get them going again.

Earlier this year I promised that I would post when Ace Of Base had released their new single "All For You".

Such a great track! And since I've been away for so long they have now also released the new album "The Golden Ratio", a great album if you like "All For You" like I do!

Last year I ran a little series of posts with hidden or forgotten gems. I think it's about time to pick it up again.

Recently one of my friends posted this video on his Facebook wall:

I had completely forgotten about that song and I think I'm not the only one as you never hear it anymore. But "Hold On" was quite a hit for Loft back in the days and can only be categorized as a 90's classic. I'm sure I'm not going to forget it again!

As returning readers might know I'm running a record label with a friend. This summer we signed a new talented guy called Michael Boe, probably best known as one half of the duo Disc Jockeyz and their hit "My Italia".

Now Michael has started his solo project and are singing in danish. We released his excellent debut single "Amok" about a month ago and so far it has enjoyed several weeks in top 10 on the official danish Hypechart.

Personally I think it's one of our best releases so far. If you think so too it's available through iTunes, Juno Download and many more download stores worldwide.

Well, so far this summer have been the best summer in years!

After a 4 year break since their last album and 3 years since their greatest hits album Da Buzz are back together and have released a new single "U Gotta Dance" ... Not one of their best but just listening to new material from Da Buzz is fantastic.

And as if that wasn't enough also Ace Of Base have announced a new single and a new album. The single "All For You" are beeing released to the radios these days! No full preview yet, so I'll be back when there is, but the small clips one can find on the net does sounds like it's going to be a GREAT comeback! Just as BIG welcome back!

Eurovision joker

The Eurovision have come and gone. Most people have probably already forgotten about it and the songs competing for fame. Though Moldova, France and Iceland actually had quite good songs this year, I'm gonna do as I've done the last couple of years and talk about good local songs.

This time I'm staying around Romania just to follow the line from my previous posts. So here's Akcent with "Jokero":

In 2006 they competed in the national contest in Romania, but ended up in second place. Actually they lost to that years best song in the international competition, Mihai Trăistariu "Tornero" who came 4th one of Romanias best results in the Eurovision.

Next is "Single Lady" by DJ Layla Feat. Alissa. One of the best examples of the Romanian sound made famous by Inna.

And yes, I do know both of the ladies and the producer are from Moldova, but since they are now based in Romania I'm taking the liberty and calling them a Romanian act. Anyways, it's a great track!

Hi again! It's been a busy year and I really haven't had the time to write on the blog, so I ended up taking a break. Now I'll give it a go again, hope to be able to post on a regular basis again.

Regular readers might know I also do my own music as one half of the duo Copenhagen Bass. We've also started our own label Digital Movement Records.

It's no secret that I love the mix of house and raggae made popular by Bob Sinclar and adapted by Yves Larock and many others. Lately R.I.O. have had huge succes keeping the sound alive.

Just as good as "Shine On" is "After The Love":

Many people think the sound is getting old. I don't! Glad R.I.O. is sticking to the succes formula.

When Lasgo released their first single "Out Of My Mind" with their new singer Jelle van Daele in the end of 2008 I thought it was ok but wasn't convinced I would rank it very high among their productions.

Nevertheless during the year it has slowly grown on me and the last month and a half I have played it quite a lot and with great joy at home.

It's still not among my top favourite Lasgo songs but definitely in the better half and with the high standards from Lasgo that means it's great!

And with two great follow up singles "Gone" and "Lost" I can't wait for the new album "Smile" to be released here in the beginning of september.

Would have bought it anyways :-)

Last Goodbye?

One of the saddest news in music this summer was that Da Buzz announced on their homepage that they are taking a break.

For two years we haven't really heard anything from them and when we do it's this sad announcement. If they do come back sometime in the future it will probably not be for a long time, even though I truly hope they will have second thoughts and return soon.

I can't really understand why they never made it big big... And after September had her success with "Cry For You" one should think that Da Buzz would have quite a chance as they can be said to be somewhat similar in style and have at least a handful of tracks with the same potential.

Well from here comes a big "Thank You!" for five great albums and a "Greatest Hits" album. Hope to see you back sometime in the future!

Speaking of Bob Sinclar he has just released a new summer tune! It just screams happy, happy, joy joy!

"Lala Song" featuring Sugarhill Gang (or actually Master Gee & Wonder Mike from Sugarhill Gang) was actually a bit of a disappointment to me when I first heard it, but it has growed tremendously on me and continues to do so. So much it is probably my favorite song at the moment!

David Guetta Featuring Kelly Rowland "When Love Takes Over" is one of David Guetta's best, only beaten by "Love Is Gone" and maybe one or two other from his album "Pop Life". And once again he shows how well he now masters the perfect blend of house and pop, just like fellow frenchman Bob Sinclar.

Well, just taking a quick break away from my series of hidden and forgotten eurodance gems, here's a new track which once again proved that when it comes to music I should've been born in Sweden...

It's Gathania with her new single "Blame It On You":

Having heard the song and not knowing anything about her, just that I loved the song and it without doubt is the track I've been playing the most for the last month or so. I started to do some research and of course she and her producers are from Sweden! They just know what to hit us with!

If this one doesn't end up becomming a massive hit across Europe there is no justice anymore (or people have just lost their musical taste)...

One of the many eurodance acts which where quite big back in the days (the (mid) 90's) but have now more or less been forgotten by the general public is E-rotic. Yet again an act I'm sure I will be returning to as they did release some great tracks.

E-rotic being somewhat a forgotten gem themself I could give you one of the great songs that made me fall in love with them, like "Fred Come To Bed" or "Sex On The Phone". But besides the music still being great, the lyrics and corny moans really haven't aged that well, so instead I will give you one of my favorites of theirs:

"In The Dark Of The Night" was one of the new tracks taken from their best of album "Greatest Tits" from 1998. One of the few albums I've bought without really knowing most of the songs. But I knew enough and wasn't disappointed. "In The Dark Of The Night" was worth the entire album in it self, but there is a lot of other great stuff on it as well.

I actually can't believe I haven't mentioned Maxx before! There's no doubt I will get back to them again as they are the ones behind such amazing songs as "No More (I Can't Stand It)" and "Get-A-Way"... Simply amazing!

But for now it's about the hidden gem that is "Heart Of Stone":

One of my favorites of theirs and a song I have had as my mobile ring tone for the past year and a half. And I still love it!

I can't believe it wasn't released as a single back in the days I'm sure it would have done better than some of their other singles.

There's no underestimating the impact 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor had on the eurodance-scene in the 90's and their influence on my taste in music as well.

I've already covered their fantastic "Dreams (Will Come Alive)"
- one of my alltime favorites - and could mention a lot of their other songs which are also on my list of classics!

But for now it's about the more hidden gems and one of their tracks which have been somewhat forgotten and in my opinion is a bit underrated is "I'm Thinkin' Of U":

2 Brothers On The 4th Floor had the most succes with their singles from the first album "Dreams" and what came afterwards has mostly been hits in their homeland and a few other markets. In Denmark they have been mostly invisible since the first album which is probably why it's only within the last five years I've come to know "I'm Thinkin' Of U". But I love it that's for sure!

Once again it's the time of year for the Eurovision. Again this year I'm not gonna give it much attention here in my blog, I'll just mention once again that it is very rarely you'll find the best songs amongst the top contenders or even in the final.

This year two of the best songs competed to become Sweden's chosen song of the year. Already getting a lot of airplay in Sweden is Alcazar with "Stay The Night":

But also Star Pilots had a good one with "Higher":

Both are typical swedish disco-pop songs. Sad Sweden didn't choose one of them, maybe they would have done better in the final.

But then again, for some reason these kinds of songs don't do very good anymore in the Eurovision. Can't understand why...

It keeps singin' in my mind

The next one is a special one. Oddly enough it is never one of the songs I think about when asked to name my favorite track(s).

Nevertheless it is without any doubt the song I have found myself singing or humming to myself most often, and I still do it on average once a week. No other song comes even somewhere near that. So it must have something my brain likes :-)

King of my dance castle

Another track which became a huge hit around the same time as "Better Off Alone" is Wamdue Project's "King Of My Castle".

A track that I still like just as much as back then and still pleases the dancefloors when played.

Even though it is nowhere near "King Of My Castle" I actually also quite liked the follow up single "You're The Reason".

Better off if you came back in my life

Talking about Alice Deejay her (their) "Better Off Alone" is probably one of the few tracks that I just loved from the very first time I heard it and - even though I rarely listen to it anymore - still does when I hear it now.

Making it a track which is probably on my all time top 20.

At the time when it was released it just sounded so fresh, like nothing else around. It was a well deserved smash hit followed by more hit singles and a great album "Who Needs Guitars Anyway?" which also have hidden gems on it like "No More Lies":

Here's yet another one of my current favorite tracks and again it's an oldie returning with new stuff. DJ Jurgen best known for his work with Alice Deejay and the smash hit "Better Off Alone" here delivers a beautiful dance tune also inspired by the oh so trendy electro sound.

Another one of my favorite tracks at the moment is also from a returning 90's eurodance star, Captain Hollywood. Best known for the hit "More And More".

His latest "It Hurts With You" is a perfect mix of pop and electro hitting it right where it hurts good.

Actually most of the 90's dance names returning these years with new material are doing a h*** of a lot better than the ones just updating their old hits if you ask me!

Touch of an element

I've previously written about Basic Element and how much I was looking forward to a new album. Well now it's here, at least in Poland where it have been released. I'm hoping it soon will hit other countries so it will be a bit easier to get the hold of.

The new album "The Truth" seems to follow the excellent style found on the comeback album "The Empire Strikes Back" and also includes the single "Feelings".

If you are a regular reader you know I've started to produce music myself together with a friend under the alias Copenhagen Bass. Very soon we will release our second single including lots of remixes and a music video.

While waiting for the remixes and video to be finished we ourself have remixed a track by another artist. The debut single by danish house artist F.U.D.G.E.

The track "If You Believe In Love (Copenhagen Bass Electro Mix)" is out through Oryx Music and will be available together with the original and other remixes on Beatport, Juno Download and DJDownload in february 2009.

I'm doing a weekly radioshow on a local radio in Copenhagen, Denmark. The show is packed with music, lots of eurodance, Hi-NRG and mainstream house and trance. Both new and old. And just a little bit of talk in between the music.

Last but not least in my little Belgium series is the duo Sylver who had a major breakthrough in 2000 with the fabulous "Turn The Tide":

It was followed by another big hit single for them "Forgiven", one of my favorites of theirs. And also the recommendable album "Chances".

Staying in Belgium and the mainstream trance/eurotrance scene, worth a mention is also Ian Van Dahl.

With a major break through tune "Castles In The Sky" it was impossible not to notice Ian Van Dahl when they first appeared in 2000.

And when the follow ups "Will I?" and "Reason" was just as good, I had to get the album "Ace" which didn't disappoint.

Some years later they where warming up to the second album with a bit more housy sound on the excellent "Inspiration" which became one of my favorites of 2005.

And even though the album "Lost & Found" wasn't as good as the first it did spawn another great single "I Can't Let You Go".

Unfortunately "Lost & Found" was the last we heard of Ian Van Dahl except for the two amazing tracks "Movin' On" and "Just A Girl".

But fortunately the members are still active in other projects as well as new ones.

Surrender to something

Staying in the Benelux area I haven't written about Lasgo before either. The eurodance/eurotrance scene made big by Dutch Alice Deejay and since then fronted by Belgian Milk Inc, Ian Van Dahl, Sylver and not least Lasgo who probably have had the biggest crossover hit of them all "Something".

"Something" just hit me instantly and when the following singles was just as good there where no doubt I needed to own the album which didn't disappoint.

Lasgo followed the succes with a second album just as good, including the beautiful "Who's That Girl" and the hits "Lying" and "Surrender".

Since then there have been silence for three years, but Lasgo has now returned with a new girl in front and hopefully many more great tracks to come!

Time for a cow

I just realized I haven't written about Milk Inc until now. Time to make up for that since I've been a fan since the start.

And the start was with a huge hit across the European clubscene with the excellent "La Vache" which landed at a perfect time for them in 1996-97 when the classic eurodance constellation - male rapper/female singer - era was slowly turning towards either bubblegum or a more trancy sound.

The following singles didn't do that well outside of Benelux or the trance scene and I thought of them as somewhat of a one hit wonder even though I new they where still releasing. It wasn't until they around the new millenium found their current form with Regi Penxten and Linda Mertens in front and the amazing "Walk On Water" that I really started taking notice of them!

Since then they have released several great tracks, one of them being my favorite from their side and one of my all time favorites as well. The simply awesome "Time":

Milk Inc has slowly build a base of faithful followers and has proven to be a viable dance act, most others only surviving to their second album if lucky.

Best albums of 2008

Well, as said 2008 wasn't really anything to talk about as far as album goes. On the brigth side the release plans for 2009 looks VERY promising though!

But I still think I should give a little feedback on the 2008 albums. None of them really makes it into my regular playlist in the future I think, but still worth mentioning is a couple from Belgium.

Kate Ryan had huge succes with her cover "Ella Elle L'a" taken from the album "Free" which makes it onto my 2008 list. As usual with Kate Ryan, "Free" includes great songs in both english and french like the single "L.I.L.Y." and the other great french cover song "Voyage Voyage":

Teaming up with Kate Ryan both as far as geographic origin and musical genre goes are Milk Inc with their latest album "Forever" which is one of their better albums and one of the best of 2008. It includes the excellent title track:

Finally though absolutely the best album release of the year I do hesitate to mention September's "Dancing In Orbit" as it is not really a new album release but a compilation collecting the best from her previous albums "In Orbit" and "Dancing Shoes" and only released in some countries following her huge succes with the new 2008 UK version of her 2005 song "Cry For You":

Actually a track that could be mentioned as one of the best tracks of 2008 as well.

It's the time of year to start looking back on what the year 2008 has brought us.

On the album side, the year have been really bad as far as I know as I can't even think of any obvious candidates.

But in contrast the year has been superb as goes for tracks! I've already mentioned tracks like Ace Of Base's "Wheel Of Fortune 2009", Fragma's "Memory" and Guru Josh Project's "Infinity 2008" which in my book are the absolute top candidates for best track of 2008.

But other great ones this year are The Attic's "Flash In The Night":

Another 90's eurodance artist I didn't really explored until recently even though she's behind another one of my favorites is Pandora.

Her track "Don't You Know" caught my attention the first time I heard it in 1995 and I still give it a play quite often.

In my book Pandora never topped this one, but she have done other great tracks. But again it's a hard one to top!

A magic omen

Returning to some words about the classic 90's eurodance.

One of the best compilations I own is by coincidence also one of my first cd's, "Absolute Let's Dance Opus 5". Being a bit late on the cd-market I actually bought this one of my younger brother who was more and more turning his taste towards hip-hop. I got at a bargain price and didn't gave it much notice on what was on it, just wanting to expand my very small cd library at the time.

As it turned out this was a compilation which - unlike most compilations of today - almost has no fillers but lots and lots of killer tracks and it very much defined my eurodance standards and demands. It is still one of the compilations I turn to most often so it really have passed the test of time.

It also includes one of my all time favorites, a track that really is the epitome of eurodance and a pure classic, Magic Affair's "Omen III"!

Probably because they never really got another hit in Denmark I didn't really explored if Magic Affair had done more greatness. Funny thing is that I at some time must have decided they where from Sweden, so it wasn't until some years ago I bought their album "Omen (The Story Continues...)" and decided to research a little that I learned they where from Germany and have done many great tracks but none as good as "Omen III". But ok, not many has!

Wheel of finally

I've previously written a review of the Ace Of Base concert in Copenhagen last year. In it I mentioned an amazing electro version of "Wheel Of Fortune". I have no idea why they didn't released it as a single at that time as the net was creating a lot of buzz around Ace Of Base's return to the limelight with a mini-tour and especially about the "Wheel Of Fortune" version they where playing at the concerts.

Well now it have finally been released and it's just as amazing as I remembered it!

I do hope it will get the success it deserves but I fear Ace Of Base again will see dissapointing sales because of weird release plans ruining their momentum. If it where up to me, this one would go straight to the top, and I can't wait for new material hopefully released as announced next year.

Ok, back to Fragma. They have just returned with a fabulous comeback single "Memory" which deserves all the attention it can get. It got my attention at once and I've been playing it constatly since the first listen.

In the mid 90's I had really started going out every weekend. I was still kind of a novice when it came to music, but had become sure that eurodance was my call. Especially two clubs had my attention at the time and I have many good memories from both including a lot of music memories!

At one of the clubs one of the big hits was Solid Base's "Mirror Mirror":

I quickly found out that Solid Base was behind the song and when they followed with "You Never Know" I couldn't wait for an album. It took some time and it wasn't till sometime later they started hitting at my local bar's jukebox with "Fly To Be Free" I started looking for the debut album again and finally found it. Ironically but not unsurprising it was named "Finally" :-)

Soon after in the late 90's they started hitting it big time with "Ticket To Fly" and many more. And the following albums got big time tv advertising. Solid Base actually got so popular that they did a song for Pringles chips commercials "Once You Pop (You Can't Stop)".

Like the rest of the eurodance scene Solid Base sadly disappeared quite sudden and is now widely forgotten. In eruodance circles however they are among many (including myself) considered to be one of the favorite acts.

I can't choose among one my many favorites of theirs, so here's one of the more popular Solid Base tracks, "Stay With Me":

What is it with me and angels?

Yes, yet another post with angels in the title and text. This time not in the title of a track but the name of an act.

It's the time of year where one can start looking back on what will become candidates for best of 2008. As for the albums I really don't see many candidates this year, so turning to an older album which I just bought recently and is for sure one of my best buys this year: Angel City's "Love Me Right".

Well, I can see on the statistics of the blog that you readers are out there. And some of you are even comming back! Thank you very much :-)

But the response isn't that big, so please don't be affraid of commenting.

I just updated my links list of free legal mp3 downloads. If you know of any others, let me know and I'll post it and we will all benefit.

Finally to get this blog even more interesting I'll start a little answering service. I do pride myself of some knowledge when it comes to 90's eurodance, but also newer stuuf, house, electro, trance etc. So if you have any questions let me know. Can't find a tracks name, the name of a singer, rumours of new tracks etc. Anything related to the wonderful world of electronic dance/club music. Just ask!

I myself have earlier asked if anyone know anything on the english version of Activ's "Doar Cu Tine" (named "Undressed"). Does anyone know if it was released on an album, a single, digital? I can't seem to find any info anywhere.

Also I would love to know who did the remix of Karma's "Every Time You Leave" which across the net goes by the Benny Benassi Remix suffix. Is it by Benny? It isn't mentioned on any official site so it probably isn't. But who did it then?

The 90's living on to infinity

It has now for quite a long time been a trend to take the old 90's eurodance classics and update them to the dancefloors of today. 2008 have probably (but hopefully not) been the peak of the trend and we have been flooded with electro versions of 90's hits.

You can find a lot of updated versions which are not electro, but turning to those one of the better updates you'll find is from Global Deejays Feat. Technotronic with "Get Up":

And lately I have fallen quite a lot for Guru Josh Project's "Infinity 2008":

Both mentioned are great versions adding something extra to the originals. Hopefully we will see other great electro-updates in the future.

Now I am rambling about dancemusic in weird languages I remembered I visited Iceland last year around this time of year. At that time local popstar Páll Óskar (Paul Oscar) had recently released his two singles "Allt Fyrir Ástina" and "International".

Both big hits on local radiostations and especially "Allt Fyrir Ástina" caught my attention. Well I still like both songs.

By the way Páll Óskar wrote the lyrics to this years Icelandic Eurovision contestant Euroband "This Is My Life".

I've recently started listening quite a lot to the brilliant Activ "Visez":

Somewhat similar and just as good as "Doar Cu Tine" and also taken from the 2004 album "Motive".

As they are from Romania and most info-pages are in Romanian it is a bit hard to find info on the "Undressed" version of "Doar Cu Tine". Anyone know anything about it?

Well "Visez" is a great track that has proven it is worth following Activ and their releases.

She's the one in french

Sometimes it's hard to figure what makes a hit but for Kate Ryan it seems singing in French is the magic formula.

She exploded onto the scene in 2002 with the smash hit "Désenchantée" which became a big hit all over Europe.

And though she have released songs in English both before and after "Désenchantée" they've never given her quite the same succes. Even though they are often just as good. Here's one of my English favorites from her "Only If I":

Her latest is again a song in French. "Ella Elle L'a" which is good on it's way to become as big as "Désenchantée" haven so far gone top 10 in Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway and Lithuania.

Keep 'em coming Kate. Both in French and English.

I just have to mention the new cooperation between Dr. Alban and Haddaway. Two of the biggest names from the 90's eurodance-scene have joined forces and are out with a brand new track Dr. Alban vs. Haddaway "I Love The 90's".

At first you might think both the sound and lyrics are a bit cheesy, but after some listens it is now one of my absolute favorites at the moment! It really deserves that one of the major radiostations or dj's picked it up and gave it a wider audience than all the blog's and music forum's which have welcomed it with enthusiasm!

Last instalment for now in the little "where did they go?"-series goes to Sweden and Double N. The duo first caught my attention with the great "Forever And A Day" featuring Maria Rubia (of Fragma fame) on vocals.

The song became quite a hit in Denmark where it was featured as one of many theme-songs of that seasons Big Brother TV-show.

Around the same time they also released the less succesful but stil good "Moon Child".

After which they disappeared... Which is not completely true... They actually did a song called "The Ride" for the movie "Lilja 4-Ever" also released as a single and have now settled as producers under the alias 2N Productions. Producing for such names as Kate Ryan and BWO among others.

Second instalment in my little "where did they go?"-series goes to Denmark and Catch. Their fantastic debut-single "Walk On Water (Baby U Can)" went all the way to the #1 spot on the danish dancechart.

A song co-written by DJ Encore who later did his own version "You Can Walk On Water" previously posted.

Then they dissapeared. Again as with Dee Dee an album was planned and actually got a title "Sweetest Mystery" but for some reason never got released? A little sneakpeak was actually given on the "Keep On" remixes maxi-single which included two bonus tracks "On And On" and "B.A.B.Y (I Miss You)".

The one forever

Ok, time to take a view on some of the acts who started off with a blast but then disappeared without a trace. Kicking it off will be Dee Dee!

Fronted by Diana Trippaers and produced by some of the same guys behind Ian Van Dahl the first release "Forever" from 2001 was a major hit across Europe, topping the dancecharts of several countries.

A year later it was followed by the just as great "The One" (and later a french version of "Forever") after which Dee Dee was unofficially shut down.

Rumours have it they actually had produced demo tracks for a full album. But it is sadly stuffed away in some drawer.

Talking about E-type I vividly remember his major comeback with "Angels Crying" which went on to be his greatest hit of all time strongly supported by the slasher horror movie parody music video.

Probably one of the few of his songs which are well known among the mainstream audience.

It was followed by another song "Here I Go Again" continuing the hit succes of "Angels Crying" with another horror movie video. This time a bit of Poltergeist and The Excorsist. It went on to become almost as big as "Angels Crying".

I personally only watch the Eurovision Song Contest for fun and not because I like the music. But since it's the time of year for the 2008 final I'll take a look back in the history of dancemusic in the Eurovision.

Most dancemusic on the Eurovision have been second rate versions of the real thing, just like rock, pop etc. on the Eurovision mostly is second rate. But thanks to the popular tv-show we all get an insight to the musical culture across Europe (and beyond nowadays). And once in a while we do get some gems out of all the efforts.

In recent years established artists have started to appear more and more frequently. In 2004 both E-type and Scooter entered the local Swedish and German competitions. None of them went on to the international show and the songs isn't among the best material from eithers back catalogue but both with their unique sound and Scooter ending at a respectable 2. place in Germany with "Jigga Jigga".

Often you have to look at the local competitions to find the best dance songs like The Attic's "The Arrival" posted earlier. But you'll also find something good in the international, most notably Antique's "(I Would) Die For You".

And now a true 90's classic Gina G's "Ooh Aah ... Just A Little Bit" which launched Gina G into a short but big career with many hits. Most people outside the UK probably don't even remember the song as a Eurovision song as it for some reason only ended as #8.

Shopping for music

Let me just rant a little about the music industry! Why is it so damn hard to find old (and in some cases also new) dancemusic to buy online? They go on and on about how filesharing is destroying the income of the music industry and yet the only track I can find from a "fairly" big name like Culture Beat to buy on danish download stores are "Mr. Vain". Even their CD's are almost impossible to find both in regular shops and online stores.

I see it as I'm forced to turn to filesharing to find their music!

I would be more than happy to buy a track like Pharao's "There Is A Star". But again it's not available on danish download stores.

Even though it's hard to find as filesharing it is at least possible!
I can easily find the same problems with newer artists.

Another big issue is file formats. Why can't we the buyers choose freely between acc, wma and mp3? I for one hate the hassle of dealing with acc and wma. Again I would have been glad to buy David Guetta's "Delerious" if it where available as mp3.

But the only way is to buy the wma and somehow convert it to mp3. Or again I could choose the easy and free possibility of turning to filesharing again.

I know that dancemusic is only a tiny tiny bit of the income from music. And I have no idea of who is to blame, the artists or the record companys? But I know that dancemusic is not the only genre with these problems and I'm sure the industry could help themself a great deal by using the energy they do on fighting filesharing on giving us opportunities to buy their music instead!

Funny I just wrote about "Angel" by Cappella and recently I discovered the song "Angels" by romanian Morandi which is a big hit in Eastern Europe at the moment.

It was a song I loved from the first time I heard it and it's one of my favorites at the moment.

Hit me with a Buzz

I've already written too long on this blog without mentioning Da Buzz, the most poptastic band in the world.

I vaguely remember they had a minor hit in Denmark with one of their first singles "Do You Want Me" or "Let Me Love You" (or both) which I liked but didn't took much notice of. As you can see, I can't even remember which song it was.

But somehow the name Da Buzz did stuck in the back of my mind and when I some years later was flipping through cd's at the local library I came upon their second album "Wanna Be With Me?". The back of my mind told the front of my mind that they had done something I had liked, so I took the cd back home to give it a test spin.

The title track hit me instantly! It was and still is amazing! The rest of the album wasn't bad either, but it was "Wanna Be With Me?" that made me keep the album home and renew it at the library some times so I could keep it home even longer.

Slowly the album grew on me and I ended up buying it and having many favorites from it. At the end of that year it was by far the most played album of mine in years and I just had to buy their third album "More Than Alive" and the at that time new fourth album "Dangerous - The Album". They didn't disappoint!

And with songs like "Dangerous", "Alive" and many more how could they?

Soon after I bought their first album "Da Sound" and actually imported their fifth and latest album "Last Goodbye" from Sweden as soon as it was released. And now I can't wait for a sixth. Everything they do are great!

Electrofy me

Time to write a bit more about the clubsound of today. Electro is sweeping the world like a storm and even though it have been here for some years it wasn't until the crossover success of Fedde Le Grand's "Put Your Hands Up For Detroit" it started getting really big.

I've previously mentioned tracks by David Guetta and Yves Larock, some other electro tracks from the past year worth a recommendation are Erid Prydz vs Floyd "Proper Education".

And Armand Van Helden "I Want Your Soul" (here in the long album version).

Also danish Fashion Victims got much attention in the homeland with their "Koochi Koochi".

R 'n' Beat

I've complained about it before, but nowadays the radiostations and music TV channels are all the same. A little radio-pop, a little rock/indie, a little hip hop and way too much R 'n' B.

Now even the very few electronic/dance tracks which make it big and sells gold or platinum still struggles for some air time or TV play. But in the middle of all the distress small signs point towards better times, I truly hope they will come.

Some of the R 'n' B artists are actually starting to get influences from the electronic scene. Hopefully they will open the public eye to the joy and energy of house, eurodance and similar genres!

Even though I can find real R 'n' B songs I like quite a lot more, tracks like Justin Timberlake's "My Love", Kanye West's "Stronger" etc. clearly have found inspiration in the electronic music. And lately one of the best R 'n' B tracks to be released for years also have some influences from the electronic club scene, Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music"

If only all R 'n' B songs would become like this I'd be happy to turn on the radio again.

Back to basics with a snap

Did you know that many of the classic eurodance artists of the 90's have returned in recent years with new material?

I'm not talking Scooter or E-type who haven't really been away. Nor all the covers or 2005-, 2006-, 2007-versions etc. of old hits. But real new material. And most of it quite good!

I've mentioned Basic Elements some times. Besides them one of the more succesful comebacks have been done by Corona. In 2006 she released "Back In Time" which was not a major hit but did spawn some attention on most dancecharts around Europe.

Snap! who have had many succesful releases of updated tracks and cover-versions released the new song "Beauty Queen" in 2005.

An amazing song if you ask me. Why it didn't went on to become a new hit of theirs is beyond me.

Rather unnoticed Dr. Alban also released a new album "Back To Basics" in 2007. Of course it doesn't help there wasn't any promotion done other than on his own website and it is practically impossible to find a place where you can buy it! Most of the songs have just started to appear on download-stores during the last couple of months. A bit sad as you can find some quite good songs on the album including "Don't Joke With Fire" and "I Wanna Know".

The list of returning 90's-dance artist is too long to go on. Now all we need is for them to have the same succes as they had back then! The music for most parts is there.

Best of dance 2007

Back from vacation and what better to start the year with a "best of 2007" post.

2007 whas actually a quite good year for dance with electro making it big and giving other dance-genres some attention as well.

I've already posted on some of the best albums from last year and of course tracks from those albums are also to find on my "best of"-list. Tracks like "In Your Eyes" and "A Life To Live" by The Attic, "To You" by Basic Element and "Wanna Fly?", "Falling", "Nobody Wants To Try" and "Point Of No Return" by DJ Encore.

Among the many excellent electro tracks released last year David Guetta's "Love Is Gone" has to be one of the best!

In the more popish end of the dance scene newcommers Lucky Twice made a fantastic debut with "Lucky"! Why it only hit it of big time in Spain and France is beyond me.

Giving Lucky Twice a strong competition are Romanian Akcent who did it again with the amazing "King Of Disco"!

Also worth to mention are danish Infernal's "I Won't Be Crying":

Finally though maybe not at the absolutely top of my list I have to mention two songs I'm sure will be played by dj's around the world for many years to come. The previously mentioned "Rise Up" by Yves Larock and following the hit-formula of "Love Generation", "World, Hold On" and "Rock This Party" the new one by Bob Sinclar "Sound Of Freedom":

Every Christmas

Christmas has passed and New Year is upon us, but I can't let December end without a post on Christmas-songs.

The comming years I'm sure I'm going to comment on lesser known and forgotten Christmas-songs, but I have to start with "Last Christmas". This unavoidable Wham classic have been covered numerous times and of course by dance-acts as well.

As some of you may know just released this Christmas is Cascada's version of the song. Actually one of the better covers of the song if you ask me.

Just as good is Whigfield's version from approximately ten years ago (I'm thinking of the "Major Cut" version below).

I personally can't decide which of the two i prefer. Probably because they are both very close to the original, just a bit faster paced and with a female singer. So I'll let you decide.

I kind of promised to be back with a review of the Ace Of Base concert in Copenhagen. Today it's excactly 1 month since the day of the concert, so what could be more obvious than to write it now...

All things concidered it was a good show! But I'll start with the negative critic. The concert was way to short, only 1 hour including the encore. With a ticket price around 70 EUR (for the cheapest ones) that sure gave some disappointing comments among the audience. And they didn't give one single song from the "Da Capo" album!?!! I know the show was part of a tour and the album wasn't released in that many countries, but still.

But what they did give was great. A set full of all their hit-singles as it should be in a comeback concert. And almost all of them spiced up with new arrangements. Most notably a ballad version of "Don't Turn Around", an electro version of "Wheel Of Fortune" that I'm sure would be a hit on the dancefloors if they released it now, and a version of "Lucky Love" very close to the original but slightly more energetic which gave a huge response in the audience.

Continuing with a classic 90's eurodance act which has been somewhat forgotten by the general public even though they had some quite big hits back in the days.

Basic Element best known for tracks like "This Must Be A Dream" and the #1 hit in most of Scandinavia "The Promise Man" but also "Move Me" and one of my personal favorites of theirs "Touch".

After releasing 4 albums from 1994-98 they disappeared. But returned last year and got some well deserved attention especially in home country Sweden, but also elsewhere. The 2007 album "The Empire Strikes Back" gave them a couple of hits with great singles like "I'll Never Let You Know" and the amazing "To You"!

Why they didn't got a pan-european hit is beyond me. But hopefully they'll want to strike again soon.

Back to the 90's eurodance. One of the bands who helped create the genre is Culture Beat. I'm sure I'm going to write about them several times as their albums just kept getting better and I keep going back to them.

They are the name behind one of the best known songs of the 90's eurodance scene: "Mr. Vain".

"Mr. Vain" is from their breakthrough second album (the first only made minor impact at the clubs). The album "Serenity" spawned many hit-singles and made Culture Beat a well known name both on tv, the radio and at the clubs.

One of the singles "Anything" probably have the musicvideo I've seen the most times.

It was on heavy rotation on all the major music-channels MTV, MCM, VIVA etc. and on national danish tv. No matter which channel I turned to, it was playing. I actually watched it so much I started to dislike the song.

Different nowadays, I love it like I love everything from Culture Beat. And how I would love to see it played on the tv now instead of all the RnB cr*p that's on.

Remember the one

Strongest contestant DJ Encore faces for the "best album of 2007"-title have to be Swedish The Attic and their album "Remember Tomorrow".

Even though it's a re-release of the album "The One" with 5 new tracks. More than one third new and really strong tracks should make it count as a new album.

(The video-version of "A Life To Live", the album-version is even better!)

"The One" was nominated for best club/dance album in the Swedish Grammy Awards and with tracks like "A Life To Live" and "In Your Eyes" it had deserved a win. But even a nomination tells something.

For now I cant decide if DJ Encore's "Unique" or The Attic's "Remember Tomorrow" will become my personal best of 2007 album. But I have played them both continuous for almost half a year now, and still find them both to be fantastic.

Unique again

Time for a recommendation of some new material. One of the top candidates for best album of 2007 have to be DJ Encore's second album "Unique"!

Finally DJ Encore returned with a new album of his own after the successful 2001 debut album "Intuition" best known for the huge hit "I See Right Through To You".

The new album shows DJ Encore isn't stuck on one sound, the album are less trancy and a bit more mellow which makes it perfect for party as well as laid back enjoyment at home. The album both haves classic DJ Encore-sounding tracks like "Point Of No Return" and first single "You Can Walk On Water".

But also slower and more acoustic tracks showing new sides of DJ Encore. But his strongest card are still present in all the songs, namely the fantastic melodic and catchy tunes. This makes "Unique" an album again from his side with no fillers!

Best representing the new sound must be tracks like "Wanna Fly?" and "Nobody Wants To Try". If you liked his first album, you will love this one as well. Even though 6 years has changed DJ Encore it is not for the worse.

Yes I know, it's only some posts ago I mentioned Ace Of Base.
I promise the blog isn't gonna be all about them.

But the latest news on Ace Of Base is too good not to mention. They are going on tour here in november/december and one of the stops are in Copenhagen and I am going! (which means I'm probably going to write about them again after the concert, but that's it. Promise).

Rumours has it the concerts are a warm up tour for a new album in 2008. I truely hope it's true! Until then I'm quite sure I'm not the only one who would warmly welcome an Ace Of Base b-sides compilation, with all the single bonus-tracks, previously unreleased tracks and other non-album tracks.

Tracks like "Come To Me", "Mercy Mercy", "Love For Sale" etc. are absolutely good enough to fill an album, and all the Acers (Ace Of Base fans) would buy the compilation without hesitation.

Rise up and rock the generation

Well, it's not only gonna be about the classics. So here's a new one I've been enjoying lately:

Yves Larock "Rise Up" a track that have gotten some attention from the dj's all over Europe but haven't been quite the chart-topper it deserves. Only Italy and southern Europe have really embraced it and down there it's probably a big candidate for being the club-favorite of the year.

They are actually calling it the "Love Generation" (by Bob Sinclar) of 2007 ... Well it's not going to be the instant classic "Love Generation" proved to be and will never have the same crossover mainstream appeal, but I'm quite shure that in ten years you will still once in a while hear "Rise Up" being played at clubs around the World.

Before anyone else points it out I have to admit getting some inspiration for this blogs name from more than just Ace Of Base and 2 Unlimited.

I had already written the two first posts of my blog (but didn't really have a name for it yet) when I came upon Acerben's excellent Pop Unlimited.

With a quick edit of the two posts they now fitted the new name Base Unlimited perfectly. Hope Acerben don't mind me being a copycat. Promise I'm not going to copy his posts as well :-)

A dream come true

A classic 90's eurodance track I have to include in this blog is
2 Brothers On The 4th Floor's "Dreams (Will Come Alive)".

I clearly remember this as one of the songs I freaked about when I in my late teens started going out to party. Nowadays it isn't remembered by many people, but at that time it was quite a hit and one of the favorites at the club I went to.

I was sold from the first listen and haven't got count of the times I've walked home from the city, drunk and singing it out loud. And it is still one of the all-time favorites of mine.

Fly Viva

Does anybody remember how fantastic the german music-channel VIVA used to be? Of course you would have had to live in or nearby Germany to recieve the channel (or have it on cable or something).

Well nowadays all european countries have their own local MTV and at least one other local music tv station. And basically they are all the same! Back in the 90's they had their own individual profiles and in the mid 90's more than 50% of the videos on VIVA where Eurodance. Now you have to be lucky to find a House-video if you watch on a friday or saturday night. No matter which music station you watch.

Well, back to the music. When I lived at home we didn't have cable or anything. So I had to settle with the weekly music video show on national tv. But the first place I moved to on my own I had cable and both MTV and VIVA. I only lived there for half a year, but VIVA quickly became my favorite tv-station and I had it on almost 24/7.

I clearly remember two videos which was on absolutely powerplay on VIVA at that time. One was Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo "Wonderfull Days" and most vivid the second one which was Haddaway "Fly Away".

Both great tracks. And "Fly Away" is still one of my favorite Haddaway songs. By the way, did you known he is still doing music? Releasing new albums and doing concerts.

The second reason for the blogs name is Ace Of Base. I was quite late getting a cd-player, until then I was doing the mix-tape thing like everyone else. But finally I got a discman and could start getting cd's.

My first cd was a dance-compilation I had won a few month before I got the discman. And actually a quite good compilation, but that's not the story here. My first real cd-album was Ace Of Base's "Happy Nation" (the original version). I like everyone else was crazy with "All That She Wants" and I also quite liked the other singles "Wheel Of Fortune" and "Happy Nation", so when I got the offer to buy the album from a friend I didn't hesitate.

The album was and still is amazing! Every single track rocked my musical world. Even though I got other cd's I think that album was stuck in my discman for more than a year. I especially liked "Waiting For Magic" (the "Total Remix"-version of the song which is on the US-album isn't as good).

It didn't took long for Ace Of Base to hit it big time all over the world and when they released the singles "The Sign" and "Don't Turn Around" which was only on the US-version of the album it just confirmed how much I liked the music. So I had to get the US-version album as well.

After waiting for what seemed to be forever, they finally released a new album. The first single was good, but I was still a poor teenager so I waited to hear the second one before deciding. It was "Beautiful Life" and I went bananas! Bought the album imidialy and was amazed again. I actually think that album was stuck in my cd-player for almost two years (still a record of mine).

Since then I've just bought every album/compilations Ace Of Base has released and has never been disappointed! And even though "All That She Wants" is still their biggest hit and it has probably been played to death, I still think it's an amazing track like every single song of theirs.

First off I want to give a reason for the blogs name. One reason belongs to 2 Unlimited one of the main acts that got me into eurodance! Being a little kiddo at the end of the 80's I didn't really had my own musictaste yet, allthough I did listen to a lot of the more mainstream hip hop like Run DMC, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Fatboys, Ice-T and so on.

Suddenly music started to appear with a harder beat, still with rap and with oh so catchy refrains. It got my attention as it got everyones at that time, and I liked it. But I never took much notice of the artists or songnames untill I heard "Faces" by 2 Unlimited.

I was hooked imidealy! I had heard "No Limits" and it was still a huge hit when a friend of mine played "Faces" on his stereo. But this new one also by 2 Unlimited just knocked me down. At that exact moment I knew what kind of music I liked!

During the same time the eurodance-scene exploded and most of the biggest and best known songs of the genre are from the same days. But it took quite some time till another song hit me as much as "Faces" did!
